Holy Name Catholic School
Our featured success story for December 2002 is Holy Name Catholic School in Winfield, Kansas! The school is comprised of 70 students in Pre-K through 6th grade. In the summer before the 2002/2003 school year, brand new reading textbooks were purchased for grades Pre-K through 5 because they had not been updated for 23 years; they were still using the 1979 series. Also, brand new 6th grade textbooks for all subjects were purchased. The 6th grade was added to the school just this year.
In search of a fundraiser to raise money to pay for the textbooks, Cynthia Howe, Vice President of the PSA (Parent School Association), ordered free samples and information of FundRaising.Com's Lollipops, Fall Gift Catalogs, and Pennies To Dollars Scratch Cards.
The PSA decided the 40-page Penny Lane gift catalog would be the perfect fundraiser to achieve their goal. In late October, 48 students in grades K through 6, accompanied by their parents, went door-to-door in their small community selling to their family, neighbors, and friends. After two weeks of hard work and dedication, the students had sold $8,280 worth of merchandise, raising $4,140 in pure profit for the school, enough to pay a substantial portion of the new textbooks!
Cynthia attributes their successful fundraiser and large amount of money earned to the children. They were "very motivated by the 'easy sell' involved…not to mention the great prizes!"
