John I Leonard High School Band

Just 70 miles north of Miami on South Florida's Gold Coast lies the city of West Palm Beach. This beautiful city is the home to John I Leonard High School, where 140 talented, hard working students make up the John I Leonard High School Band.

In the beginning of the 2002/2003 school year, the band's Fundraising Chairperson, Harold Mullett Sr., set out on a mission with only one goal in mind: to relieve some of the parents' burden by raising money to put towards the steep $400 yearly band fee (which is in addition to the cost for trips, uniforms, and concerts).

Harold wasn't sure what kind of fundraiser would be best for the band, so he contacted FundRaising.Com and ordered some of our product samples. After receiving his "Fundraiser-in-a-Box" Kit, Harold presented the "Safety First" brochure fundraiser to the rest of the band board. It didn't take long for everyone to agree that selling first aid kits would be the perfect fundraiser for the band.

In the beginning of September, Harold got the ball rolling, set the dates and announced the fundraiser to the band members. However, right before their Safety First fundraiser was scheduled to begin, it was discovered that it was in conflict with a fundraiser the football team was about to begin, so the fundraiser was called off. BUT THEN it was discovered that the band fundraiser was NOT in conflict with the football team fundraiser, so their fundraiser was "back on." The problem was, most of the band members, in the confusion, never found out the fundraiser was back on, so only 22 members actually took the Safety First brochures home!

When the confusion was worked out, it was too late to go back and have every band member participate, so the 22 members finished selling and handed in their orders. In Harold's words, "the band director was literally floored" because he wasn't expecting the sale to have been successful, and as it turned out the 22 students sold $2,343.00 worth of safety kits! Because they made 50% profit, that added $1,171.50 in pure profit for the band!

Harold told us, "Our students found it very easy to sell the safety program." Keeping that in mind, and knowing how much they could raise if all 140 members participated, Harold is planning on doing another Safety First fundraiser next September.

As a thank you to Harold and the entire John I Leonard High School Band for being such a valued customer, we sent them a free master case of 576 gourmet round lollipops. Great job, Harold! We look forward to helping you continue to raise thousands of dollars for your good cause!
