Kaplan High School Band Program

At the beginning of the twentieth century, after the Southern Pacific Railroad build a branch from New Iberia to join the main line farther west, Kaplan, Louisiana was settled. Today, Kaplan, Louisiana is a town home to the "Krewe Chic-A-La-Pie" Mardi Gras Festival and the Bastille days Celebration as well as FundRaising.Com's Featured Organization for the month of September - the Kaplan High School Band. This town is a small community big on Cajun hospitality and culture.

The Kaplan High School Band Program is under the direction of Mr. Kendal Faulk who is just embarking on his 17th year at Kaplan High. Under his leadership, the Band Program has made leaps toward establishing itself as one of the top high school band programs in the state of Louisiana as well as the whole nation! The Symphonic Band, the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble have consistently received superior ratings at District, State and National levels. The band received the Sweepstakes Trophy, performed at the prestigious Loyola University of New Orleans Invitational Band Festival, in March of 2000. All three groups also attended the Smoky Mountain National Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 2001, where they received all superior ratings and were awarded 1st place in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble Competitions. The KHS Band Program is also very proud of the fact that there are 7 students who are currently attending universities in Louisiana majoring in Music Performance or Music Education. (We're impressed!)

Unfortunately, even extraordinary groups like this suffer from under funding. And in Mr. Faulk's many years at Kaplan High, he tried EVERYTHING. His band members sold Pizza, they sold candy, they sold everything that fundraisers usually sell. And then they found FundRaising.Com and our premium gourmet frozen cookie dough. Since September of 2000, cookie dough has become KHS Band's only fundraiser. Since then, they have held six different cookie dough sales, and each one was more profitable than the last. "Customers are begging for another sale" just weeks after one is completed. In total, the Kaplan High School Band has raised over $32,000 with cookie dough alone. This money has paid for their extensive traveling and has bought them much-needed new instruments.

All of us at FundRaising.Com commend the Kaplan High School Band and its director Kendall Faulk. We take inspiration from the success they have had at the hands of our cookie dough sale. We will be sending Kendall and the Band a master case of Carousel Round Gourmet Lollipops for being our September organization of the month.

Great job, guys! Good luck with all your future fundraisers!
