Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Now that it’s November and winter is just around the corner, you might already be thinking about what to buy your loved ones for Christmas. In anticipation of the shopping season, you might even be planning on where to shop on Black Friday.

Since 1932, Black Friday, which is the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the US, has marked the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Since 2005, it’s been the busiest shopping day of the year with many big retailers offering promotional deals and opening earlier to accommodate the mad rush of shoppers. Now, in the age of the internet, Cyber Monday has been added to this tradition. It’s the following Monday after Black Friday when online retailers offer special deals for Christmas shoppers.

The Black Friday/Cyber Monday craze seems to get bigger every year, but is there a way to take advantage of this phenomenon in your fundraising efforts? Absolutely, there is. Here are a few Black Friday/Cyber Monday fundraising ideas.

The Black Friday Bazaar

The point of shopping on Black Friday is to find amazing deals, but when it comes to finding great stuff for cheap you can’t beat buying used. You could hold a bazaar at a local church or community center and sell all kinds of used things that you don’t need. Nothing is off limits: clothing, electronics, books, furniture, kitchenware, musical instruments, or anything else you can think of could all be for sale.

Be sure to get the word out by advertising online via social media, and the old fashioned way with flyers. It’s especially helpful if you have your bazaar at a place that gets a lot of foot traffic.

Online Fundraiser

These days, people love to buy online, so an online fundraiser is a good way to raise funds on Cyber Monday. Set up your account and start raising funds today! Or call our swift Fundraising Consultants who will be happy to help you setup your own personalized fundraising store in no-time.

Encourage People to Give on Giving Tuesday

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are all about buying things, Giving Tuesday (the day after Cyber Monday) is all about being charitable. It hasn’t been around for as long as the two shopping days, so not as many people know about it, but it presents a golden opportunity for fundraisers.

Encourage people to get into the spirit of the season which is all about good will, and lend support to your cause. Whether you choose to do this online through a fundraising page, or in person through face-to-face interactions, Giving Tuesday is the perfect time to appeal to supporters. Inspire them, and show how supporting your fundraiser will make a difference.
